Visitor center “Caricin grad”

The visitor center “Caričin grad” was opened on June 17, 2024 for the purpose of presenting the archaeological site “Caričin grad”, the nature park “Radan planina” as well as the tourist attractions and cultural-historical heritage of the municipality of Lebane.
The visitor center is located at the foot of the archaeological site itself. There is a presentation room with expert guidance through the installation of replicas of artifacts found on the site, then showing the content on boards and electronic information carriers with a representation of Caricin grad in virtual reality conditions using VR glasses.
Next to the presentation room is a hall equipped for scientific meetings and workshops with 50 seats. In front of these two halls the wide amphitheater area, in the open, with 360 seats there is. The paths  from the amphitheater enter the parking lot.
Directly next to the visitor center is the previously built “Theodora” Visitor Center, named after the Byzantine empress, wife of Emperor Justinian I. There is a restaurant of 40 seats inside the building and 60 seats at the covered terrace. The restaurant offers dishes of traditional Serbian cuisine. The small conference hall of the Visitor Center is equipped with audio-visual equipment for presentations, with 40 seats. In the accommodation area, there are six double and two triple rooms, with a total capacity of 18 individual beds.

Since its opening in 2012, on the centenary of the beginning of archaeological research, until today, the “Teodora” Visitor Center and the “Caričin grad” archaeological site have been gathering places for the scientists and professionals in the field of history of Byzantium, art, architecture etc , schools holding classes in nature, and events on the topic of Byzantium and Justinian’s reign. The Art Colony “Caričin grad”,takes place there. There is the event “The streets of the Caricin grad” with a practical demonstration of various old crafts, gastronomy of the sixth century, a ceremonial academy in which school children from primary schools with artistic expression present the authentic life of the Caricin grad of the sixth century.
